The Romani Studies Research Group is a collaboration of University of Sheffield and school staff working with and for the Romani community in Sheffield. The group is directed by Dr Mark Payne who has worked with school colleagues at Firth Park Academy since January 2013. The main focus of the work has been ethnographic in nature, exploring the educational, social and linguistic integration of the Slovakian Roma pupils at FPA.

Since our initial beginnings we have grown to include Hinde House Secondary School where we are engaged with a project focused on the attainment and retention of Roma Slovak girls, as well as establishing links with researchers at the University of Prešov, Slovakia.
