Slovakian Roma girls: aspirations, attainment and retention.
This project focuses on Slovakian Roma girls in years 9-11 at Hinde House School and investigates their aspirations in terms of future careers and employment, attainment in the form of progress levels and examination grades and retention in relation to return migration and community and cultural influences. The project seeks to understand the parental, home and community influences that impact upon the girls and their educational potential and in particular, the assumed cultural stereotype of Roma girls leaving full-time education at an early age to begin families.

The project is directed by Fiona Wood and Mark Payne.
